More than 1,100 institutions in Slovakia received bomb threats by e-mail on Tuesday, mainly schools, police said on their social networking site. According to the authorities, 995 educational institutions, 110 bank branches and 40 electronics stores received the threatening e-mails. Among the educational institutions affected are also Hungarian nationality schools.

Ma.sk, Hungarian-language news portal, reported that schools in Bratislava (Pozsony), Trnava (Nagyszombat), Žilina (Zsolna), Trenčín (Trencsén), Nitra (Nyitra) and Košice (Kassa) counties were subject to bomb threat from yesterday morning. The bomb threats are being investigated by a special unit, the National Crime Agency (NAKA). So far, none of the threats have been found to be true. The police immediately took the necessary measures to prevent the possible consequences mentioned in the e-mails sent to schools. This was also announced on their social networking site.

“Every precaution is being taken to avoid any threat to life and limb. Such threats are not taken lightly by the police, which is why we have involved other police forces in addition to NAKA staff in the measures,” the police added. Bomb squad officers, dog handlers with specially trained service dogs and riot police units from each police regional directorate were involved.

On the basis of the evidence gathered, NAKA investigators have opened criminal proceedings for the particularly serious crime of terrorism in both cases. The perpetrators are now facing sentences ranging from 20 to 25 years in prison or life imprisonment. “We are working intensively to clarify the plot and find the originator of the e-mails, and we are also cooperating with other security services and foreign partners,” police said.

“In your towns, the mujahideen will kill you wherever you are. There is a bomb on the school grounds. A painful end will come to you wherever you are. Our fighters have come with a good purpose, to bring you the religion of Islam. After all, salvation is in Islam, not in your false religions.

When our brothers fled because of the regime, you closed your borders. Did you think that would protect you from meeting your creator? Now we are here in your whole country. Your only choice is to join us, surrender or die.

And woe to anyone who commits aggression against us.”
