MEP candidate of Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ), Loránt Vincze emphasized the importance of the Hungarian community in Transylvania maintaining its representation and utilizing all available political tools.
Speaking at the inauguration of a community house in Gălățeni (Szentgerice), rebuilt with support from both the Hungarian and Romanian governments, Lóránt Vincze highlighted the unique position of Christian communities in the region. He noted the contrast with Western Europe, where deserted churches often give way to commercial ventures due to shifting ideologies that devalue community, family, and unity.
Mr. Vincze commended the efforts of the Reformed pastor, Attila Batizán, and the parish of Gălățeni, stressing the need for unity in the community to sustain its representation in Brussels, Bucharest, and local municipalities.
He urged collective action in upcoming elections to safeguard the community’s voice in decision-making processes.
Ferenc Péter, president of the Mures County Council, echoed the MEP candidate’s sentiments, emphasizing the intrinsic value of community-led initiatives. He emphasized the significance of local communities like the ones around the Niraj (Nyárád, Szeklerland), highlighting their ability to set and achieve developmental goals. Mr. Péter underscored the importance of collective determination in utilizing available resources, such as EU funds, to drive further development.
He urged the community to seize the opportunity on June 9th to continue their progress autonomously, rather than relying on external decision-makers.
