Hungarian transmission system operator (TSO) MAVIR estimates that at least 4,000 MW of power plant capacity will have to built in the coming 15 years, state news wire MTI reports.

MAVIR said most of the capacity would be necessary to replace power plants that reach the end of their lifespans, as it calculates that electricity consumption will rise at a rate equivalent to only 50-60% of annual GDP growth.

Big power plants in Hungary had a nominal capacity of 6,996 MW at the end of 2017. Small power plantsʼ capacity stood at 1,621 MW.
