Shock in Lasithi: How the tragedy happened
According to neakriti.gr, the man (pictured) who was found dead by the side of the road in Katharo Kritsas, and was spotted by two women, was 36-year-old farmer G. N. from Ierapetra, and the father of one child.

According to the information, he had gone to help his relatives, the breeders, with the shearing of the herds (haircutting) and after the party that followed and the consumption of alcohol, the pistols came out and "ballots" were played.

The feast turned into a tragedy
The latest reports state that the tragedy took place during a feast at the custom of "lamb shearing", where alcohol was being consumed abundantly. At some point, a relative of the victim took his gun out of the car to shoot a few rounds, as Cretans are apt to do during festivities, a custom called "balothies".

According to cretalive, the tragedy occurred from the balothies, which resulted in the fatal injury of the 36-year-old from the gun held by his brother in law.

Due to a mishandling of the gun, the bullet cut the thread of the unfortunate man's life.

The 36-year-old Giorgos N. was picked up by an ambulance from the area of ​​Kritsa and transferred to the Agios Nikolaos Hospital late yesterday afternoon. However, it was too late as he had already succumbed to the wound.

The authorities launched a manhunt to locate and arrest the perpetrator, who finally presented himself late last night at the Lasithi police station.

The first indications point to manslaughter, however the police are proceeding with an autopsy, and are collecting all the evidence, taking statements, in order to investigate the exact circumstances of this new tragedy.
