The radical modernisation of the basic infrastructure of the National Health System in the next two years, with a focus on increasing Intensive Care Units, is a major wager for the government stated Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday afternoon, during his visit to "Attikon" University General Hospital.

Earlier, Mitsotakis visited the monastery of Daphni, which is included in UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage list and is considered the most important monument of the mid-Byzantine era in Attica.

During his visit to Attikon, Mistotakis was briefed on two major projects being implemented in the hospital, which are financed by the Recovery and Resilience Fund in the context of the broader upgrading of public health infrastructure in Greece.

According to government officials the first and almost completed project at Attikon Hospital is the total renovation of the Psychiatric-Paedopsychiatric Clinic, the renovation of the toilets and major improvements to the facilities housing the hospital's out-patient surgeries and another three clinics.

The second project concerns the upgrading of the ER department of the hospital, based on the Health Ministry's new standards.

In his visit to the monastery of Daphni, the prime minister was briefed by Culture Minister Lina Mendoni on the restoration and maintenance works which were funded by the NSRF, as well as on the plans for additional works.
