The alternative schooling pilot programme for children with severe socio-educational challenges will be housed at the environmental information centre in Athalassa national forestry park, according to teachers’ union Oelmek leader Demetris Taliadoros.
The programme is expected to run in the next school term.
Although nothing has yet been announced by the education ministry, Taliadoros said the environmental centre was one of the premises proposed by Oelmek before the Pancyprian Gymnasium commotion.
Taliadoros told Politis that the education ministry was now opting for the centre, which had been proposed months earlier, indicating the “sloppiness” with which it was handling such a serious issue.
“Things unfolded at the Pancyprian in the way they did, the picture projected was that we were the bad ones and now the education ministry is choosing the place we suggested in the first place,” he said.
Taliadoros said that “for 19 months now we are hearing about things to be done, commitment on behalf of the president of the Republic, the minister, and so far we have seen nothing being done.”
