According to Reporter, inmates protested the deteriorating catering conditions and allegations surfaced about food being prepared for money. Tensions began to rise during breakfast and escalated by lunchtime.
Things got out of hand when inmates started smashing up the kitchen, leading to two people being injured. An ambulance was called, and reports indicate that one of the seriously injured individuals is a foreign inmate.
In recent months, inmates have repeatedly complained about the food they are served and had raised the issue with the inmates’ association.
