The ski season is expected to open today on Vitosha - the mountain at the foot of which lies the Bulgarian capital city of Sofia. The ski lifts "Vitoshko Lale 1" and "Vitoshko Lale 2", "Mecha Polyana", "Training Track" and "Vitosha Snowpark" will be in operation. Up to and including 30 December, the facilities will operate daily from 9:00 to 16:00, after which they will reopen on 2 January and operate without a day off until the end of the season under favourable weather conditions, Vitosha Ski said.
At the moment, traffic on the roads of Vitosha is difficult. Snowploughs are clearing the snow and it is still raining. The snow cover is 1 metre.
After the New Year, the Vitosha Tulip slope will be open for evening skiing from Wednesday to Saturday.
This season Vitosha will also host the final of the FIS European Snowboard Cup in the discipline of freestyle rails. The event will take place on 23-24 March in the Mecha Polyana area.
