Easter Fuel Prices Announced:

It has been announced how fuel prices will change in Hungary from Friday, reports Világgazdaság. So far this year, from January to now, wholesale petrol prices have risen by HUF 98 per (1 EUR = 394.7 HUF) liter and diesel prices by HUF 72, although HUF 41 of this is due to the mandatory excise duty increase in January.

The rise in fuel prices in Hungary continues, but only partially, according to a recent report by Holtankoljak.hu. Based on data from the fuel price monitoring blog, the wholesale price of petrol will be HUF 3 gross higher from Good Friday, while the price of diesel will drop by the same amount.

It is expected that the price changes announced by wholesalers will be passed on to retailers, including petrol stations, thus drivers can expect the following average prices over the Easter holidays:

  • 95 petrol – HUF 641 per liter,
  • diesel – HUF 645 per liter.

It is important to stress that these are average prices, from which actual retail prices may differ by a few forints. At the moment – and this will remain the case until midnight on Thursday – the average price of 95 petrol is HUF 638 per liter and HUF 648 per liter for diesel. The typical retail price at petrol stations is a few forints lower. However, fuel is roughly HUF 50 more expensive per liter on motorways.

Exactly how the newly announced wholesale price increase will be applied by petrol stations from the last working day of the week remains to be seen, but so far this year (from January until now),

the price of petrol has increased by HUF 98 per liter and the price of diesel by HUF 72,

although HUF 41 of this is due to the compulsory increase in excise duty in January. Excluding this, there is a price rise of HUF 57 and HUF 31 for petrol and diesel respectively. The increase of around HUF 80-90 per liter means that an average 50-liter tank of petrol costs HUF 4,000-4,500 more now than it did in December last year.
