More public toilets for Brusse

As schools start breaking up for summer and outdoor activities are becoming more popular, finding free toilets in Brussels is something of a challenge – and they are particularly absent in the city’s public spaces and parks.

The City of Brussels is aiming to change this, including the installation of six new toilets – two unisex, two female and two additional urinals - in Brussels Park (often called the Royal Park due to its proximity to the palace).

Previously there were only two facilities on site and they were often closed. This proved to be “grossly inadequate”, said Brussels deputy mayor Fabian Maingain, especially since the park became increasingly popular during the Covid-19 pandemic and regular hosts major events.

The project was carried out in collaboration with Woodpecker, the catering company running the guinguettes (summer bars) in Brussels park and in the Bois de la Cambre, where new toilet facilities will also be created soon.
