Ruud van Nistelrooy posts fitness update on Ireland winger Kasey McAteer ahead of FA Cup tie
Kasey McAteer will be given every opportunity to prove his fitness ahead of Leicester City’s FA Cup clash with QPR on Saturday, according to Foxes manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
McAteer has not played since the mid-December defeat to Newcastle United - and he is one of a number of fitness concerns for the former Manchester United striker.
The four-time capped star had enjoyed a run of four starts in five games up to that game.

Van Nistelrooy said: “Kasey is back in full team training. Based on today and tomorrow, he could be available for the game.”
Jannik Vestergaard is also being monitored ahead of the QPR game. He was substituted with an injury last weekend against Aston Villa.
McAteer, whose grandmother hails from Offaly, was targeted by Stephen Kenny towards the end of his spell as Ireland manager.
However, his paperwork wasn’t completed in time for the exciting Leicester winger to feature under Kenny, and he received his first call-up for last September’s Nations League games against England and Greece.
As for his other injury concerns, van Nistelrooy said of Vestergaard: “Jannik has been assessed. He’s made his steps after he had to come off. We’re looking to get him on the [training] pitch today or tomorrow and get him ready for QPR but it’s doubtful."
Wilfred Ndidi continues to work on his fitness, with van Nistelrooy adding: "He’s continuing his individual training. He’s not yet with the team. He’s pushing harder on an individual basis. Hopefully we can welcome him to team training over coming weeks."
