Mack Hansen to serve three-match ban but available for Six Nations

Mack Hansen will not miss any of Ireland's Six Nations games after being handed a three-match ban following comments made about refereeing decisions against Leinster.

Ireland winger Hansen caused quite the stir during the post-match press conference following the 20-8 defeat, stating that his side had been on the wrong side of poor officiating.

And Hansen will now serve a three-match ban, missing Connacht's Challenge Cup games against Lyon and Cardiff as well as a URC clash against Glasgow. However, he is available for Ireland's Six Nations opener against England on February 1.

Connacht have also received a suspended €10,000 fine while Hansen must undergo referee and media training.

Following a disciplinary hearing, the findings stated: "The disciplinary panel met on Wednesday, January 8 and consisted of Roger Morris (Chair, Wales), Nigel Williams (Wales) and Stefan Terblanche (South Africa).

"In deciding the sanction, the panel considered the apology from the player and that attaching a learning process would have a more positive outcome rather than merely applying a playing sanction.

"In their conclusion, a six-week ban was deemed appropriate with three weeks suspended."

Hansen also released a statement, saying: "People know I always wear my heart on my sleeve.

"However, after the Leinster game, on this occasion, I let my emotions get the better of me.

"Upon reflection, my comments to the media were ill-advised, and fell far short of the standards I expect of myself, and what the sport expects of its players.

"I want to offer an apology to the match officials for any distress my comments may have caused. Our games are built on mutual respect and I didn’t show that after the game.

"I also want to apologise to the URC, and I fully accept the findings of the independent disciplinary panel.

"I love Connacht, and I love rugby.

"Moving forward, I will channel all my energy and passion into representing my province and country to the absolute best of my ability – both on and off the field."
