Dublin Half Marathon places sell out as website crashes due to crazy demand

The first staging of the Dublin City Half Marathon has sold out in just a couple of hours.

There was a massive demand for the inaugural 13.1 mile event that will take place on Sunday, March 30 on a course that will take runners from the start on O'Connell Street out to the northside of the capital before finishing back in the city centre.

Organised by the team behind the Irish Life Dublin Marathon and Race Series and in partnership with Dublin City Council, the official event partner, entry fees cost €68.

Hopefuls expressed disappointment online that the www.dublincityhalfmarathon.ie website for entries had crashed but that didn't stop the 12,500 capacity event selling out in such a short period of time.

Before tickets went on sale the hope was expressed by organisers that the event could expand next year if agreement can be made between all the parties involved and, given the high demand, that looks set to happen.

Race director Jim Aughney reacted: "We knew there was a demand for another high-quality half marathon in Dublin, and today has shown that to be true as we sold out in a couple of hours.

"We are aware too that given the high demand, some users experienced difficulties with registration. We will review this fully and consider options for 2026 entries."

Disappointed runners will still have an opportunity to secure places via transfer of places. The transfer window will open from Tuesday, February 21, to Sunday, March 9.
