Robbie Keane reveals Alex Ferguson advice as he begins new journey in Hungary


Robbie Keane has revealed how Alex Ferguson helped him land the Ferencvaros job.The former Ireland captain is back in management with the Hungarian champions, seven months after stepping down from Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv.Keane was appointed today and has already added ex-Ireland team-mate Rory Delap to his coaching staff.

And Keane, 44, vowed to wow Ferencvaros fans with attacking football as they chase another league title and look to go deep in this season’s Europa League.Keane was in Budapest yesterday to seal the deal and will fly to Spain on Tuesday to join his squad at a training camp while the Hungarian league is on its winter break.“The most important thing for me in a football club is the people, that's the key,” said Keane, Ireland’s all-time record goal scorer.“Alex Ferguson told me in the summer, don't pick the club, pick the people, and that's important.

“I think supporters will enjoy the way my team plays, but we have to do it in every game and that’s the message from me to the players.“I want to send the fans home happy, that they have come to watch a really good football team.”Keane will be expected to deliver a league title this season, with Ferencvaros sitting second in the table and one point off the lead with a game in hand.But he is refusing to saddle himself with early expectations ahead of his first meet up with the players in Spain.Keane said: “My target is always the next game. I know in my head what I want to achieve - and everyone wants to win.“Once I see the players and see their mentality, if we are on the page, we can push and aim to be better every day.“But I want to give the fans what they want and that’s exciting football. Hopefully we can get many more fans in and fill the stadium.“Hungary is a huge footballing country, two million people in the city, one of the biggest clubs in the country - we have to give them good football.”
