'Person of interest' comes forward as gardai investigate hit and run incident in Dublin

A 'person of interest' has come forward to gardai in the aftermath of a collision between a car and a pedestrian that left a man in hospital.

The collision occurred on the Lower Rathmines Road around 8:45pm yesterday, when a car struck the victim and failed to remain at the scene.

The man, who is aged in his 40s, was rushed to St. James's Hospital by ambulance and his injuries are understood to be serious. The scene was preserved for a technical examination.

A garda spokesperson this afternoon said said: "Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses to a collision between a car and a pedestrian in Rathmines, Dublin, on Sunday, 22nd December 2024.

"The injured adult male (40s) remains in St James Hospital in a stable condition. A person of interest has come forward to Gardaí voluntarily and has provided a statement.

"Gardaí are not looking for any other vehicle in relation to this incident. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

"Those with camera footage, including motorists with dash-cam, from the area at the time are asked to provide it to investigating Gardaí.
