Shamrock Rovers discover their Europa Conference League opponents as UEFA complete play-off draw

Shamrock Rovers have been handed a Europa Conference League play-off round clash with Norwegian side Molde in February.

And they will face either Legia Warsaw or Cercle Brugge if they make it to the last-16.

Rovers played Molde during the 2022/23 Conference League group stages, and lost 3-0 away and 2-0 in Dublin. But given their sensational run in this year's competition, they can be confident of putting up a better fight this time around.

The Hoops qualified comfortably for the knockouts with a game to spare, and were still in with a shout of automatic progress to the last-16 prior to Thursday night's defeat to Chelsea.

In the end, Rovers missed out on a top-eight finish on goal-difference and finished 10th in the 36-team table.

Cercle Brugge’s 1-1 draw with Istanbul Basaksehir - the team that narrowly saw off St Patrick’s Athletic - saw the Belgians sneak into eighth place.

Jagiellonia Bialystok also nudged ahead of Rovers on goal-difference thanks to their draw with Olimpija Ljubljana.

Djurgardens’ 3-1 win over Legia Warsaw saw them jump from 11th to fifth in the final table, while Rapid Vienna also moved past Rovers and into fourth thanks to their win over Copenhagen.

However, Rovers will be hopeful that they can still make it to the last-16 when they take on... . They could also have faced _ in Friday's draw.

The Tallaght side's progress to the play-off round, secured last week with a 3-0 win against Borac Banja Luka, has earned the Hoops an extra €200,000 in UEFA prize money.

Had they made it straight to the last-16, they would have secured an additional €800,000 - but they will get another chance to in February to bank that sum and add it to the €5.5m already won so far.
