Man, 60s, killed in horror collision in Mayo as gardai close road


An man in his 60s has tragically lost his life following a fatal road traffic collision in Co Mayo.



The collision occurred at Main Street in Ballinrobe shortly after 6.30pm on Thursday (December 12) evening.



Gardai and emergency services responded and the pedestrian, a man aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. His body has been removed to Mayo General Hospital where a post-mortem examination is due to be carried out.

The scene is being preserved as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a technical examination and the road is currently closed with local diversions in place.



A man, aged in his 30s, has been arrested in connection with the incident. He has since been released without charge.



Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.



In a statement, a garda spokesperson said: "Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6pm and 7pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.



"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Claremorris Garda Station on 094 937 2080, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
