100kg of drugs found in container at Freeport

In another operation at the Freeport, the Police on Wednesday evening made a discovery of approximately 100 kilograms of suspected cocaine, with a street value of around €14 million, the police said in a statement.

"The drugs were found in about 50 packets hidden among cable reels in a container that had arrived in Malta from the Port of Guayaquil in Ecuador."

"This drug seizure occurred during continuous surveillance being carried out by the Police as part of efforts to combat drug importation, with assistance from the Customs Department."

While the drugs were confiscated and investigations by the police are ongoing, an inquiry has been launched by Magistrate Dr. Philip Galea Farrugia LL.D, the police said.
