The Government Increases Education Spending Significantly in 2025 Budget

The government’s 2025 budget places a strong emphasis on education, with a substantial increase in funding aimed at enhancing the sector, reports Világgazdaság.

Education spending will rise by HUF 3,900B (EUR 10.2B) compared to the previous year, marking an increase of HUF 500B (EUR 1.3B), and boosting resources by over 80% in real terms. This growth reflects the government’s priority to improve education and its long-term vision for the sector.

The 2025 budget includes significant allocations for various education sectors, with HUF 448.8B (EUR 1.2B) designated for preschool and primary education, HUF 588.3B (EUR 1.6B) for secondary education, and HUF 840.7B (EUR 2.2B) for tertiary education.

A key focus is also on supporting education workers, as more than HUF 1,600B (EUR 4.3B) will be dedicated to increasing teacher salaries.

This aligns with the government’s commitment to pay teachers 80% of the average graduate salary. Additionally, HUF 190B (EUR 508B) will be allocated to the “Teachers’ Salary Increase Fund 2026” to continue supporting salary improvements.

Other initiatives in the budget include a continuation of the free textbook program, with HUF 19B (EUR 51M) set aside for this purpose in 2025. The Klebelsberg Center’s (governmental body supervising education) staff expenditure will rise from HUF 603B (EUR 1.6B) to HUF 819.1B (EUR 2.2B), further strengthening the educational framework.

This measures reflect the country’s ongoing commitment to the education sector, aiming to improve the quality of education while providing long-term support for teachers and students alike. With these allocations, the government seeks to create a stronger, more sustainable educational system for the future.
