Prime Minister inaugurates the Spencer Garden regeneration project in Marsa

Prime Minister Robert Abela has inaugurated the Spencer Garden regeneration project in Marsa.

Spencer Garden, covering an area of around 11 tomna of land, has been restored to a "beautiful state for the community" as part of government's commitment to continue investing in green and sustainable spaces at the heart of local communities in Malta, a government statement said.

It said that this garden, regenerated by the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA), strongly promotes sustainability principles, including a water storage and filtration system.

The project also includes the planting of nearly 6,000 shrubs and another 6,000 plants, along with several trees and solar-powered systems to generate electricity.

Abela expressed his satisfaction with the completion of this project in the heart of Marsa.

"Marsa is a place where past decisions were tough on its people. Today, I am proud of a government that firmly believes in Marsa," Abela said, reiterating the strong regeneration efforts he envisions for the locality.

He highlighted significant decisions already taken by government, such as the closure of the power station.

"I believe we need to accelerate our work to achieve more. I want to see more projects like Spencer Garden. Other projects we have completed, such as Wied Fulija, Il-Qortin in Gozo, and Bengħajsa, are also significant," Abela said.

He said that next year's Budget will see increased investment to complete 19 additional open-space projects by the end of the year.

Before the inauguration, Environment Minister Miriam Dalli said that with this regeneration project, new life is being given to Marsa.

"This project symbolizes the continuous protection we want to provide to our surrounding environment. Spencer Garden represents ERA's commitment to continue working and strengthening its efforts toward environmental protection in its various forms," Dalli said.

"We promised 40,000 square meters of new open spaces by the end of the year. This is the third garden we are opening within three days, offering added value to the locality it is situated in," she said.
