Paschal Donohoe compares Simon Harris to Coleen Rooney as he confesses to new guilty pleasure

It may not be an I’m A Celebrity bushtucker trial that Paschal Donohoe will be facing this Friday, but the Fine Gael Minister has revealed that the reality show is his new election guilty pleasure.

Instead of counting stars for meals, Mr Donohoe will be counting votes this weekend following polling day on November 29.

At a Fine Gael pre-election “rally” in Trim on Wednesday afternoon, he admitted that he was torn between watching Coleen Rooney in the jungle or his own party leader Simon Harris taking part in the final debate of this election campaign the previous evening.

“I was in a debate myself on [Tuesday] night on TV3 [Virgin Media],” he told the party faithful.

“It was Paschal against the world in the studio making the case for the work that Fine Gael has done.

“When that debate concluded. I got back home to Phibsborough, got back home to Dublin Central and said, ‘What am I going to do?’

“Am I going to put on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here? Have a look at the highlights, see what’s happening with Coleen Rooney?

“Or will I turn on the RTÉ Player? Will I look at the highlights and see how it went? I made the right choice.

“I can say with confidence to all of you, it’s the only time Simon Harris has been compared to anyone in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.”

This is not the first time this week Mr Donohoe has spoken of his new found I’m A Celeb love.

“I’ve never watched it in my life,” he said on Tuesday while speaking to reporters in Leopardstown, south Dublin.

“I begin every day thinking about Dublin Central. I end it thinking about Coleen Rooney and Maura Higgins.”
