Roy Keane gives concerning Manchester United prediction after watching Ruben Amorim's first match

Roy Keane believes "average" Manchester United have no chance of finishing in the top five this season.

United currently sit 12th in the Premier League, having picked up 16 points from their first 12 games, and Keane delivered a damning verdict after the Red Devils drew 1-1 with Ipswich Town in Ruben Amorim's first game in charge.

"Manchester United, at this moment in time whatever the problems are, are an average Premier League team," Keane told Sky Sports. "So many teams are way ahead of them. There's a long way to go for this United team.

"Huge job for the manager, huge job. And, again, we keep saying it but listen, hopefully they get it sorted. You still have the same players out there. The same problems. We talk about leopards and spots, the issue with United over the last couple of years.

"Lack of goals, lack of quality. We're looking at Ipswich who haven't won all season at home and they look the better team. If any team was going to win you felt Ipswich were.

"Do I believe this group of players have the quality to get United back to top four of five? Absolutely not. The evidence just isn't there. Once the game starts it's the same old stuff."

United took an early lead through Marcus Rashford, but a brilliant long-range strike from Omari Hutchinson drew Ipswich level. And United goalkeeper Andre Onana produced two excellent saves to deny the hosts an upset win.

Reflecting on his first game in charge, Amorim admitted it will take time for him to improve United's performances. "We are going to suffer for a long period. It's going to take a long time," he said.

"We will try to get results but we know we will have to be patient. The structure will take time. We have had just two training sessions and they did OK. We have a lot of games and the guys who do not play will train.

"We must improve the way we play. The players are trying, they are really trying. I know it's frustrating for the fans but we will try. It's so clear for everybody that Onana saved us two times at least. He understands very clearly and he did a great job."
