Students successfully complete AFM course

A group of students have successfully completed an AFM course after being given the opportunity to spend time following the maritime work of the Armed Forces of Malta, the Ministries for Social Policy and Home Affairs stated.

The Ministries said that the students got involved in various exercises which tested their physicality, resilience, and collective spirit. They continued that during the last days, the students carried out a number of different sessions and were asked to react to difficult situations on an individual as well as a collective basis.

This project, the Ministries stated, was started in 2015 by the Foundation for Social Welfare Services in cooperation with the AFM. They added that over the years, over 200 students have been awarded merit for successfully completing the course, with a number of them even working in the Disciplined Forces of Malta today.

They commented that the AFM offers a specialisation in areas that require mental and manual skills, while also installing a sense of discipline and loyalty to the country. The Ministries added that these students were selected to participate in this program, known as 'Adolescent Day Programme', which they said helps to maximise the social and emotional development of the students.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said that he wishes for similar experiences to be repeated in the future, where students spend days with the Armed Forces. He commented that a career in the army not only gives a sense of professionalism, but also increases discipline.

Social Policy Minister Michael Falzon congratulated the students and remarked that no one should give up, even if surrounded by a difficult environment. He commented that it is the government's job to continue working in synergy and push forward social activities with the help of the Armed Forces in order to promote a sense of discipline and resilience.
