OMV to Expand Its Electric Car Charging Network

While OMV’s new fast-charging points are now available at 15 locations in Hungary, the company is working on the construction of 12 more that are expected to be completed by the end of the year. By the end of 2025, the company will have almost 50 ultra-fast EV (electric vehicle) charging points across the country.

As OMV Hungária Kft. writes in a press release, with this development they will make fast-charging available to anyone within 100 kilometers along the main routes. The available ultra-fast charging stations can be used now with a capacity of at least 100 kW, and electric car owners will be able to charge up to 200 kW at several locations by the end of 2024.

The release quotes Ján Hrivnák, Managing Director and Head of Retail Business at OMV Hungária Kft., as saying that only charging points that offer ultra-fast energy pick-up will be installed, meaning

drivers can recharge their car batteries up to 80 percent in just 20-30 minutes of waiting.

OMV has also developed its own app, OMV eMotion, that allows motorists to see the available charging points and their performance in real time, as well as to use a route planner to get to the charging location.

FactAs reported by Hungary Today, OMV announced to build ultra-fast electric car charging stations on the country’s high-traffic routes in November last year. The investment is part of a large project co-financed by OMV and the European Union to contribute to the development of a regional network for ultra-fast charging of electric cars by installing over 400 charging points in EU countries.

Vienna-headquartered oil and gas company OMV entered the Hungarian market in 1990. OMV Hungária Kft. operates 201 service stations and has a 15 percent market share in Hungary. The Hungarian subsidiary employs nearly 60 people directly and its network of service stations consists of approximately 1,700 employees. OMV generated revenues of EUR 62 billion in 2022 and employs around 22,300 people worldwide.
