Trevi Fountain's panoramic catwalk inaugurated

A suspended catwalk that will allow
visitors a close view of Rome's Trevi Fountain while the Baroque
masterpiece is being cleaned was inaugurated on Saturday.

"The perspective is spectacular", Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri
said at the unveiling of the walkway, which will remain in place
until December while maintenance work is carried out to remove
limestone deposits and filth.

The temporary addition to the monument will accommodate about
130 people at a time, Gualtieri said.

It will be open every day from 9 until 21, except for Monday and
Friday when opening hours will be from 11 to 21.

The catwalk had already been used in 2014 during restoration
work that lasted two years, the mayor said.
A small pool has been installed next to the catwalk so tourists
can keep up the tradition of tossing coins for good luck while
the fountain's basin is sealed off.

Rome is gearing up for the Jubilee, when over 30 million
tourists are expected to visit for the Catholic Church's Holy
Year.
