Dublin Fire Brigade intern becomes instant hero as she helps deliver baby boy

A Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) intern has been praised after she sprang into action to help deliver a baby boy earlier this week.

Firefighter/Paramedic Intern Lauren Kelly, along with her colleagues from Tallaght Fire Station, came to the rescue when they came across an expectant mother in need of assistance in north Dublin on Tuesday night.

After assisting in the delivery of the healthy baby boy, the fire brigade's Tallaght ambulance transported the woman and her newborn to hospital.

The DFB congratulated the mum on her new arrival in a message shared on social media.

"Firefighter/Paramedic Intern Kelly, along with her colleagues from Tallaght Fire Station assisted delivery of a baby boy this evening," they wrote.

"Our Tallaght ambulance transported Mam and baby to hospital.

"Congratulations on your new arrival from all on C Watch in Tallaght."

A number of people rushed to commend the firefighters on their heroics, with person commenting on the social media post: "Congratulations you will give the Rotunda [Hospital] a run for their money. Well done where would we be without you all."

Another person added: "We'll done great job as usual," while a third said: "Congratulations well done to all involved."

This isn't the first time members of the Dublin Fire Brigade have played a helping hand in delivering a newborn. Just last month Firefighter/Paramedics from Blanchardstown station assisted with the delivery of a baby boy who arrived into the world outside of a maternity hospital.

And in February of this year, firefighters helped to provide a fast delivery service as a baby was born at a McDonald’s in Tallaght.
