Sean Dyche aims pointed dig at Erik ten Hag after Man Utd sacking - 'Only thing I would say'

Everton boss Sean Dyche has taken a dig at Erik ten Hag after he was sacked by Manchester United.

United parted ways with Ten Hag on Monday following their 2-1 defeat to West Ham, which left the club languishing 14th in the Premier League. It brought to an end the Dutchman's two-and-a-half years in charge at Old Trafford, with Ruud van Nistelrooy installed as his replacement on an interim basis.

Sporting boss Ruben Amorim looks set to be named as Ten Hag's successor and Dyche has given his thoughts on United's decision. Despite sympathising with Ten Hag, Dyche noted that he had been given "a fair time scale and resources" to succeed.

Speaking ahead of Everton's clash with Southampton at the weekend, Dyche said: "Firstly nobody wants to see managers get the sack but eventually that's the nature of the business and we all understand it.

"Results hadn't gone to their liking and Manchester United have a high demand. The only thing I would say is that there has been a fair time scale and resources available for such a highly regarded manager to get a grip on what it is.

"It's hard though, it's hard at any level. You've got to win games and eventually that's what you get judged on but I wish him well - I'm sure there will be something else big for him."

Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui also shared his thoughts on Ten Hag's sacking, having beaten United in what proved to be his final game in charge. "I wish the best for him," Lopetegui told reporters.

"He did very good work and he's a very good coach. I understand these kind of moments. I'm sure that very soon he is going to be working again, for sure. I am not commenting [on Amorim]. Ruud is the coach.

"I don't have to comment on something that hasn't happened right now. I repeat, I have no comment. I have enough problems in my mind with Nottingham Forest. This is enough for me, for sure."
