48% of car driving tests failed in 2024

48% of driving tests for the B category licence (cars) were failed, Transport Minister Chris Bonett said on Monday as he replied to a question from Nationalist Party MP Mark Anthony Sammut.

Sammut asked the Minister to detail the rate of people who did not pass the driving test for each category between 2019 and the current day.

Bonett replied by presenting statistics which show that in 2023, the failure rate of B-category driving tests was 44% whilst this year it is 48%. In 2019 the failure rate was 59%.

The failure rate for A-category licences (motorcycles) in 2023 was 40%, with this year's being 42%. It was 25% in 2019.

For the C-category licence (trucks and vans), the failure rate in 2023 was 33% and in 2024 it has been 38%. The rate was 21% in 2019.

Concluding with the D-category licence (passenger vans and coaches), the failure rate in 2023 was 46% whilst in 2024 it is 56%. The rate in 2019 was 37%.
