Cyprus real estate agent exams to be held in October


The Cyprus Real Estate Agents Registration Council this week announced that it will conduct examinations for aspiring new real estate agents on Saturday, 26 October 2024.





According to the announcement, these exams are essential for candidates seeking registration in the council’s official registry.





Council president Marinos Kineyirou said that “the written examinations are conducted in accordance with Article 11(1)(a)(v) of the Real Estate Agents Law to ensure that candidates possess sufficient knowledge of the land and urban planning legislation of the Republic”.





“This knowledge is necessary for the proper and responsible practice of the real estate profession,” he added.





The announcement also mentioned that the examinations will be held in the Greek language and will require candidates to demonstrate their understanding of several key legislative provisions.





These include the Immovable Property Law (Cap. 224), which covers tenure, registration, and valuation; the Transfer and Mortgage Law (No. 9 of 1965); the Land and Surveys Department Fees and Charges Law (Cap. 219); and the Sale of Property Law of 2011 (No. 81(I)/2011), focusing on specific performance.





In addition, the exam will also cover the Streets and Buildings Regulation Law (Cap. 96); the Town and Country Planning Law of 1972 (No. 90/1972); as well as the Real Estate Agents Law of 2010 (No. 71(I)/2010).





To qualify for the examinations, candidates must submit an electronic application to the Council by 2 p.m. on Thursday, 26 September 2024, accompanied by a fee of €100.





The council added that eligible applicants must meet the criteria outlined in Article 11(1) of the Real Estate Agents Law, including being a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus or another EU member state, not being bankrupt or under any legal incapacity, and not having been convicted of any offence involving dishonesty or moral turpitude.





What is more, candidates must hold a recognised diploma certifying the successful completion of post-secondary education of at least three years, or its equivalent, in subjects relevant to the real estate profession.





They must also have completed at least 12 months of professional training as a registered assistant real estate agent in the Republic of Cyprus.
