Emerging Ireland Player Ratings: Sam Prendergast adds to the credits on his CV as Ireland win 36-24

Ireland ran out 36-24 winners on Wednesday evening as they ran in six tries. There were plenty of stellar performance and here is how the players rated.

Emerging Ireland Player by Player:15. Ben O’Connor - Always looking to hit the line and make an impact, almost making a clean break at one point in the second-half only to be chased down by an extremely fast winger. Noticeably busy throughout. 914. Rob Russell - Picked up an early knock and was subbed by Postlethwaite who went into centre, O'Brien shifting to the wing n/a13. Sean O’Brien - Moved to wing when Russell was injured. Worked industriously to exploit space. Important intervention early in the second-half when wrapping up a tackler who had almost powered over in the corner 8

12. Hugh Gavin - Carried effectively when on the ball and, importantly, contributed to the tackle count as there was plenty of traffic in midfield. Creditable display given the backline rejig needed following Russell's departure 711. Zac Ward - Excellent 14th minute try, beating a first defender for pace before cutting back in and handing off a second. Regularly turned up looking for work and quite the physical presence in the tackle 710. Sam Prendergast - Opened his game with a fabulous 70m kick from his hands. Ran in the match in trademark calm composed manner. Subbed 12 minutes into the second-half having added credits to his CV here. 99. Matthew Devine - Sharp around the base, kept the Pumas guessing as he varied his plays. For the main part though excellent link play, great support and cleverly worked a high final pass to Smyth ahead of the hooker's try 91. Mark Donnelly - Prominent early carry and, a little later, a tough tackle on his opposite number. Involved in a lot of loose play and held his own in the scrum. Subbed at half time by Usanov 82. Stephen Smith - Super poach close to his own line that almost certainly saved an early first-half try. Took a super support line backing up Sheridan and Devine ahead of fourth try early in the second-half 83. Jack Aungier - Gained a vital early penalty with second scrum of the day on the Irish 5m line and, somewhat surprisingly, taken off early in the second-half. Will have impressed the Ireland management 84. Harry Sheridan - Get through lots of hard work as Ireland used the pack's weight effectively in the rumble, his pick and go and 'bust' from the side of a ruck ahead of the fourth try was a thing of rugby beauty. 85. Darragh Murray - Played the full 80 minutes. Bided his time when popping up to score the second try, lurking to the right of a pick-and-go under the Pumas posts, eventually taking a pass from Izuchukwu, picking a gap and scoring 86. Cormac Izuchukwu - Bagged the third try just before half-time with a direct short range carry. Didn't quite dominate in the way expected but nonetheless put in a very solid performance 77. Alex Kendellen - Textbook poach midway through the first-half and a hard-working outing. Possibly brought ashore in order to be named in the first team and as captain for the second game at the weekend 88. James Culhane - Bossed the Irish restart defence, taking all the kicks fired in his direction with safe hands. Moved to blindside following the clearing of the Ireland bench as Sean Jensen packed down at no8 for the remainder 7Replacements: 16. Gus McCarthy for Smyth 47 - Textbook try from a rolling maul 717. Alex Usanov for Donnelly h/t - Particularly noticeable about the pitch, solid scrummaging 818. Ronan Foxe for Aungier 47 - Big man, number of big contributions 719. Evan O’Connell for Izuchukwu 50 - Worked hard, tackled well 720. Sean Jansen for Kendellen 47 - Bigger physical presence than Culhane at no8 but not as mobile 721. Ethan Coughlan for Murphy 60 - Brought in for tricky last quarter as the Ireland pack struggled 722. Jack Murphy for Prendergast 52 - As with Murphy had to work off the back foot as Ireland began to tire 723. Jude Postlethwaite for Russell 10 mins - Into the action early and filled in at centre, notably physical in the exchanges 7
