'Not a bit of badness in him' - Tragedy as young man with 'a heart of gold' dies in Cork

People across Cork have paid tribute to a young man who died in the city centre on Monday night.

Dean Seery, a man in his mid-20s, was pronounced dead by emergency services after being found unresponsive by a member of the public. The young man was from Gurranabraher and was well-known to those working with homeless and vulnerable people on Leeside, reports Cork Beo.

Dean had previously volunteered with members of the Kindness Krew soup run group and has been described as "having a heart of gold". It's understood that Dean suffered from addiction and was very open about his struggles - previously taking part in a radio documentary called 'Please Don't Pass Me By', which included several members of Cork's homeless community.

The documentary was aired by community radio station Life FM, where Dean also volunteered himself. Kindness Krew organiser Jade Millar said that she had known the young man for years and he had become very close with members of their team.

Speaking to CorkBeo, Jade said: "He was a lovely young man - had a heart of gold and there wasn't a bit of badness in him. I had known him through the soup run but knew him personally before that. He had struggled with homelessness for a long time. During the Status Orange warning over the weekend, he had to take shelter in the door outside the Savoy.

"He suffered from addiction and that seemed to take over his life, but addiction can happen to any one of us. All of the Kindness Krew had become very fond of him, he was so lovely, polite. Such terrible news."

Many of Dean's friends and family members have also paid tribute to him online, describing him as a "harmless soul" who will be dearly missed by all.
