Richard Madeley eats same food every day after tragic family deaths 'make him more aware'

Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley has revealed the daily regime he swears by in a bid to steer off heart disease.

Following the tragic deaths of his grandfather, father and uncle, who all died from heart attacks, Richard admits he is "conscious" about his health and therefore does what he can to prevent risk.

To stay fit and healthy, the broadcaster revealed that he walks 10,000 steps a day and watches what he consumes.

The supplement he also doesn't go a day without is a supermarket-bought yoghurt that helps keep cholesterol down.

Describing himself as "an inveterate walker", he shared: "I'm active around the house, my kids say I'm very annoying because I never really sit down. I'm always doing stuff on my feet.

"I'm on my feet a lot and I walk a lot, I don't do a step count but I'm sure I do over 10,000 steps a day.

"We all know that walking is one of the most effective exercises you can do."

Richard believes his family members died due to their individual poor lifestyles which consisted of heavy smoking and being overweight, so therefore doesn't fear that it is genetic.

Regardless of this however, it has prompted him to have regular checks with a doctor and stay healthy.

"My blood pressure is very good and my cholesterol level is low," he shared on The Dr Hilary Show podcast.

"I take a little supermarket bought statin everyday, a little yoghurt, which does help lower cholesterol [and] I have regular health checks.

"I'm very lucky in that generally I've always been in very good health.

"I think what gave my grandfather, uncle and father their heart attacks, and the one that killed my father, as I said they were heavy smokers.

"My dad, at one stage, was on two packs a day and he died at 49."

Richard said as well as his family history, it was John Diamond's death back in 2001 that made him give up smoking for good.

Having interviewed him on This Morning just days before he died from throat and mouth cancer, the broadcaster said the "sad sight" of John is what prompted him to quit his "secret" smoking habit for good.

He explained: "I remember after that interview, that was the day, I went back to my dressing room on This Morning and I reached up on to the top of the cupboard and brought [down] my 10 pack of Benson and Hedges, there was eight in there, and I screwed them all up and flushed them down the loo.

"Not for the first time in my life, but with the absolute conviction that was not going to go like that, I'm not going to have that kind of death and I haven't smoked since."
