Man, 40s, killed and truck driver rushed to hospital following two vehicle horror collision in Kildare


A man, 40s, has died following a two vehicle road traffic collision in Co. Kildare on Monday morning.



The crash involved a car and a truck and occurred at Barnhill East, Castledermot at 9.20am.



The dead man, who was the driver of the car, was killed in the collision. His body has since been removed from the scene to the mortuary in Naas General Hospital where a postmortem will take place in due course.

The driver of the truck was taken to St Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny, for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.



"No other injuries were reported at the time," a gardai spokesperson said.



"The R448 remains closed from Junction 4 of the M9 to Castledermot, with local traffic diversions in place.



"Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.



"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 8.45am and 9.45am this morning, Monday 19th August 2024, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.



"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Kildare Garda Station on 045 527 730, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station," the spokesperson added.
