US President Joe Biden tests positive for Covid amid growing calls to step aside

US President Joe Biden has pulled out of a campaign speech after testing positive for Covid. An organiser told the waiting crowd in Las Vegas that the President would no longer appear as "he doesn't want to get anyone sick."

Biden has come under increasing calls to step aside as the Democratic nominee in recent weeks, following a disastrous debate performance and subsequent TV interviews that have called into question his ability to lead the country for another four years. Earlier on Wednesday, the 81-year-old commander-in-chief said he would step down if 'some medical condition' emerged.

Recent polls have shown a significant lead for the Republican nominee, former President Trump, in the wake of the attempt on his life at a rally on Saturday. Meanwhile, two-thirds of the electorate now believe President Biden is too old for a second term in office, after trailing off, mumbling, and making little sense in the first debate.
