Watch: Masked thug threatens the life of Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and Mary Lou McDonald

Gardai have been made aware of a sinister video of a masked man who threatens the life of the Garda Commissioner and to “shoot” Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald in an expletive-ridden rant.

The disturbing video, which has been shared widely on social media, shows a man wearing a balaclava ranting about his support for the Coolock protests - before he goes on to make the threats.

“This is ridiculous lads. Get up the lads in Coolock. F***in’ love yas, lads, petrol bomb the f*** out of the lot of them,” he says in the chilling video.

“Don’t worry lads,” he adds, “I’ll be down to help ya, don’t worry about that. Yiz have more backup than yas think, lads, yeah?”

He then urges people to “take that Drew Harris p**** as well, take his whole throat, lads, take Drew Harris’s throat off him.

“F*** Drew Harris, f*** the lot of them in that fuckin’ Dáil, f*** everyone, f*** everyone.

“Think about your f***in’ self. Drew Harris, he be getting shot, he be getting’ f***in’ blasted, I swear to God on that, he be getting shot before the end of the year. And see that Mary Lou? I’ll shoot her meself, for free. I’ll do her for free, I will, yeah?”

Gardai have been contacted about the video, and in a statement said: "An Garda Síochána does not comment on third-party material and videos circulating online, the contents of which cannot be verified".

Mary Lou McDonald said on X: "Last night a threat to kill me was issued online. The individual said he would shoot me dead. This represents and escalation of targeted online abuse directed at me over the last year. It is totally unacceptable.

"I have reported this to An Garda Siochana. Ironically, this threat was made while I was hosting a discussion on the need for zero tolerance when it comes to violence against women and girls."
