Conor McGregor puts a mammoth bet on Argentina after losing huge sum on Cristiano Ronaldo

Conor McGregor has put a huge wager on Argentina to win Copa America after a bet on Cristiano Ronaldo has gone badly wrong.

The UFC star bet £60,000 on Ronaldo to win the Golden Boot prior to the start of this year's European Championships in Germany.

But as the tournament heads towards the quarter-final stage, Ronaldo is still waiting for his first goal for Portugal.

The legendary player missed a penalty in Portugal's last 16 victory over Slovenia on Monday and is three goals shy of the current leaders for the Golden Boot in Germany's Jamal Musiala, Slovakia's Ivan Schranz and Georgia's Georges Mikautadze.

Given this situation, it seems unlikely that Ronaldo will be able to challenge for the Golden Boot as Portugal prepare for a quarter-final clash with France.

McGregor has now turned his attention to the Copa America after placing a stagerring £365,000 bet on Argentina to lift the trophy at odds of 7/4.

Lionel Messi's Argentina topped their group after victories over Canada, Chile and Peru.

Now the reigning World Cup winners are looking forward to a quarter-final against Ecuador on Friday.
