Arsenal fans despair as Premier League title parade plans confirmed - "We never learn"

Arsenal have split opinion amongst their fans after unveiling plans for a three-hour bus parade if they beat Manchester City to the Premier League crown.

The Gunners last won the league title back in the 2003/04 campaign but have a real chance to end their 20-year drought in the coming weeks as they battle City for domestic glory.

Mikel Arteta 's side are currently a point clear of City at the Premier League summit, although the reigning champions have played a game less heading into the home stretch.

And while nobody in the Arsenal team will be under any illusions that there is still plenty of work left to be done if they are to lift the trophy later this month, celebrations to commemorate such an occasion have already been pencilled in.

Given the title race is likely to go right down to the wire, Arsenal have had to give preliminary plans to Islington council in the event of them winning out. The celebrations, consisting of a bus parade through north London, would lead to road closures from 4pm on Monday May 20.

As well as embarking on an open-top bus, players would also make an appearance on a podium above The Armoury store to end the event, which would conclude at around 8pm.

The response on social media has been split with some fans citing concerns that they could be ridiculed should they not win the title. One posted a warning, saying: "We never learn. I'm not ready for banter if we won't win it."

Others echoed similar concerns with another fan posting: "I feel like we're jinxing things with this...". Fans of other clubs also chimed in with one social media user saying: "This will be the biggest banter material if Arsenal don't win."

As well as hoping Manchester City slip up in the coming weeks, Arsenal have two must-win fixtures against Manchester United and Everton to negotiate themselves.

They could be without Arteta on the final day, though, with the Spaniard just one yellow card away from suspension. Another caution against against United this weekend would mean Arteta would be forced to watch Arsenal's final match from the stands.
