President Xi Jinping Receives Military Welcome at Buda Castle

Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, and his spouse were received with a military ceremony on Thursday in the Lion Courtyard of Buda Castle.


Hungarian Head of State Tamás Sulyok, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and their spouses, as well as members of the government, welcomed Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan on the second day of their visit to Hungary at the Lion Courtyard.



President Xi and President Sulyok inspected the Hungarian Defense Forces’ Guard and Ceremonial Regiment, the National Cavalry Regiment, and the soldiers of the Count Ferenc Nádasdy Hussar Regiment, including the horseback march of the hussars.

After the military ceremony, Xi Jinping and his entourage proceeded to the Sándor Palace, where Tamás Sulyok received the Chinese President on an official visit.

Peng Liyuan, accompanied by Zsuzsanna Nagy, spouse of President Sulyok, attended a joint cultural program in St. Stephen’s Hall of the Royal Palace.



The Chinese Head of State is on a state visit to Hungary until Friday, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.


During their meeting, President Xi Jinping emphasized mutual respect and trust in Sino-Hungarian cooperation, citing a Hungarian proverb.



President Sulyok highlighted Hungary’s commitment to global cooperation, viewing East-West collaboration as an opportunity.

Both leaders underscored strong political relations as the foundation for expanding economic ties, evidenced by infrastructure projects and educational exchanges. Xi Jinping praised Hungary’s warmth and invited Sulyok to visit Beijing, signifying a desire for deeper collaboration. The Hungarian President accepted the invitation.
