Irish boxer ended up in straitjacket one day after controversial MSG defeat

Irish boxer Sean McComb has revealed how he ended up in a straitjacket just one day after controversially losing to Arnold Barboza Jr at Madison Square Garden last month.

McComb turned in an impressive performance and caused all kinds of problems for Barboza Jr in their fight on the undercard of Ryan Garcia v Devin Haney in New York City. Many felt McComb had done enough to get the win on points, but the judges opted to give the decision to Barbosa Jr, who moved to 30-0 with the win.

That decision has proven to be highly contentious, with plenty of fans and fellow fighters taking to social media to say that the County Antrim native was 'robbed.'

McComb didn't have too much time to wallow in defeat however, as just one day later, he found himself in handcuffs and a straitjacket after a misunderstanding with police.

After having a few drinks at the airport before his flight home, McComb headed to board the plane:

"Walked down the wee ramp towards the plane. The air hostess was just like 'youse aren't getting on, you're intoxicated'" McComb said on Shane Todd's 'Tea with me' podcast.

"I walked right back up the ramp and there was like f***** four police officers standing there. And he was like 'sit down on the floor.'

"And I was like 'I'm not f****** sitting down on the floor,' and he just grabbed me and f***** me to the ground and stuck handcuffs on me.

"They put me in the back of an ambulance, put me in a straitjacket with the handcuffs on. I was looking at the guy in the back of the ambulance like 'mate, this is unnecessary' and he was like 'it's just procedure.'

The 31-year-old was then taken to a hospital before eventually being released some time later.

And when asked what he did when he got out of the hospital, McComb answered: "We got a taxi straight down to Times Square and had another pint!"

McComb had battled through illness to make to fight-night in the iconic arena located in the heart of New York City before turning in one of the performances of a lifetime to push Barboza Jr all the way.

And while the decision was a controversial one, Barboza Jr has offered to fight McComb again in a rematch to set the record straight:

"Guys I’m willing to run it back with Sean anytime also Ramirez, Garcia, Haney, Matias, Cruz. These are the fights I want. I’m a fighter I fight. Always grateful never satisfied."
