RG Snyman wants to leave Munster as back-to-back URC title winners ahead of move to Leinster

RG Snyman desperately wants to be remembered as a winner at Munster - not the unfortunate who had to spend so much time on the injured list.

To that end he is targeting a second URC title win as third placed Munster continue their 2024 form surge.

Says the Rugby World Cup winning second-row: "It is 100 percent a big motivation for me especially after doing it last season so to go back-to-back in the URC would be brilliant.

"It's the last bit that I can contribute to Munster so as committed as I've been since the day I’ve got here, I just didn't have the opportunity.

"I'm trying to put all the chances I’ve missed into the opportunity I have now.

"It is what it is and I expected things to go a certain way but I must say the people have been really nice about it, when I bump into people on the street they're very understanding of the situation.

"The guys around the building have been very professional about it so I guess I’ll say it’s been very understanding from everyone.

The Reds' current form, insists the 29 year-old, is good enough to go all the way.

"I definitely think so, especially looking at our last couple of games and looking to the form we’re in at the moment.

"We need to stick together and just take care of ourselves and keep our feet on the ground and keep working.

"We’ve had a good run of URC games, the time in South Africa we used really well and referring back to what we did in South Africa last year it was the thing that kick-started our season last year.

"We tried to do something similar this season, and I think we ended up doing very well over there.

"It was just a great time for us to be together for the two weeks over there and spend some more time together. I think we took a lot of confidence from that.

"It keeps getting better every week as well so it’s just great to be out there with the guys."

Meanwhile Denis Leamy has given credit where credit is due, Snyman has been a huge influence on the group's current form.

"He’s such a calming influence, I suppose he is the unsung hero in the group. He just has a great head on his shoulders. Huge experience. Nothing is a problem. Nothing is a fuss. He just goes and does it. He’s a pleasure to be around, a pleasure to coach.

"He is a great Munster man and obviously has the most international caps within the squad.

"A great player for Munster over the years and he continues to come up with big moments and big influence on games even now."

Saturday's game with Connacht will be Snyman's first inter-pro since lasting seven minutes in his first post-RWC 2019 game, at Leinster, in September 2020.

"I’m very much looking forward to it, and very much looking forward to being back at Thomond Park.

"It’s a very special place to play, and you can see the opportunities to play there in the red jersey are getting less and less. I’m very excited for the opportunity."

"We definitely spoke about it this morning, the importance of this game this weekend. Especially after the last game we played Connacht, they’ll come to Thomond Park this weekend looking to make a statement, and we’re very aware of that."We’ll be as prepared as we can be, and we’ll look forward to the challenge."
