Ed Sheeran brutally mocked for Met Gala look as fans compare him to High School Musical star

Ed Sheeran was brutally mocked online for his 2024 Met Gala look as fans joked he brought Zac Efron's prom scene from High School Musical 3 back to life.

The Brit singer's outfit was one of the most talked-about looks on the red carpet as he was spotted at the star-studded event wearing a shiny light-blue suit. The 33-year-old artist paired the eye-catching suit with a crisp white button-down shift underneath, complete with a rhinestone-covered matching tie.

And as Ed took the annual event on, fans couldn't help but notice that his classy look was strikingly similar to the same outfit Zac - or Troy Bolton - tried on for his final high school prom with Gabriella. Fans took to X, formerly Twitter, drawing a connection to the iconic scene where Troy was seen leaving a dressing room swaying his hips and singing "It's too tight it makes me look weird " during the song A Night to Remember.

Following his red carpet debut, one Met Gala fan joked: "Ed Sheeran is giving Troy Bolton when his tux was too tight." And another brutally responded: "Wtf is even this he looks so out of place ksksksks." And a third added: "I love Ed Sheeran cosplaying as Troy Bolton at the #MetGala." And someone else joked: "Ed Sheeran looks like he’s about to have A Night To Remember #MetGala."

Ed was among the many stars that took to the The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City for the annual gala as they showcased their best looks for the "Garden of Time" themed occasion. Ed was just one of the many celebrities that stepped out in unexpected looks for one of the biggest nights in fashion.

Some of the other striking looks to capture fans' attention include Doja Cat's nearly-naked towel look, Emily Ratajkowski's crystal-covered sheer outfit with no undergarments, andRita Ora's X-rated see-through gown. And while many gave Ed slack for his bold outfit choice, others slammed other male celebrities that played it too safe this year for the gala including co-chairs of the event singer Bad Bunny and former Thor star Chris Hemsworth.
