Beats follows its Solo 4 headphones with new Solo Buds earphones that boast 18-hour battery life

The famous Beats by Dre brand returned last month with a long-awaited update to its hugely popular Beats Solo headphones.

The Apple-owned company dropped its brand new Beats Solo 4 on-ear cans which we said had "heaps of improvements".

But those cans aren't the only new product coming from the firm this summer with the audio giant also announcing its first ever Solo Buds.

These wireless earphones, which will cost €89.95 when they launch in June, promise to offer an improved fit, decent sound and simple connectivity with both iPhone and Android.

The new Beats Solo Buds are missing something most other true wireless earphones have but you should never notice. Let me explain. Their tiny carry case is unusual in that it does not have a battery in it so the buds don’t recharge when you pop them back in the case - you have to put them in and then connect the case to a power outlet in order to refuel.

They also move away from the usual bulky charging case found on most wireless buds. Instead, the firm said you will simply refill them using a standard plug and then get 18 hours of usage before needing to recharge them again. The idea behind this is that it makes the case much smaller and less bulky to have in your pocket.

Popping your buds in the case for a refuel is how would charge the case and buds back up normally, but as there is no battery in the case, you must always plug into USB-C power if you want to top Solo Buds up. This means they are unlike virtually all other Bluetooth buds which have a battery in the case for on-the-go top ups. However, it makes sense when you consider that Solo Buds have 18 hours of battery life when fully juiced up and this is four times as much stamina as some competitors' earphones.

Beats has enthused about the audio performance because of “ergonomically designed acoustic nozzles and laser-cut vents." The buds come with four tip sizes to hopefully suit most ears, but like the Solo Buds 4 they don't come with active noise cancellation (ANC).
