Irish tourists arrested on suspicion of assaulting police after party complaints in Costa del Sol

Two Irish tourists have been arrested on suspicion of assaulting police who responded to complaints from a neighbour about a late-night party at their rented Costa del Sol holiday accommodation.

The pair, aged 29, were held after allegedly refusing to turn down the loud music they had on and then lashing out at officers.

One of the men is said to have punched one of the two cops who initially went to the property near Puerto Banus before running back inside the apartment after his friend resisted requests to show them his ID and insisted they had no intention of ending their loud party early.

The police called for back-up but the same holidaymaker lashed out a second time before he was arrested, kicking and punching officers as they tried to overpower him.

His friend was also held after allegedly becoming violent. There has not yet been any official comment from police.

The tourists are believed to have already appeared before a judge but court officials could not be contacted early this morning for comment on the case.

Respected local paper Sur said one of the officers who attended the incident had suffered a shoulder injury.

Police were called by a neighbour who had previously asked the holidaymakers to turn the music down but was ignored.
