Lando Norris spotted telling Max Verstappen how he injured himself at Miami Grand Prix

Lando Norris was spotted appearing to tell Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz the real story behind his mystery nose injury.

Images went viral on social media in the week leading up to the Miami Grand Prix of the Briton sporting a significant bandage on his face. It showed an injury sustained while he was partying in Amsterdam on his weekend off.

Norris celebrated King's Day with superstar DJ Martin Garrix, among others, on a party boat in the Dutch capital. But things went wrong when he managed to cut himself on the face during the revelry.

Ahead of the Miami race, on the driver's parade float, Norris was pictured in deep conversation with Verstappen and Sainz. And footage of the conversation appears to show the McLaren racer gesturing to his nose and explaining his injury.

Norris was still wearing a plaster on his face as he spoke to media in Florida and gave a vague explanation of what had happened. He said: "A good day out. I've got a lot of friends, a good group of friends there so it was a good weekend.

"Already the next morning, I flew straight to Miami. I enjoyed my days off which is always a nice thing in such a busy schedule. It was just cut on glass, it was just a bit of broken glass, a little bit silly.

"It looks a lot worse than it is, everyone thought it was horrendous, but it’s just a little cut. I wish it was a cooler story, but sadly it is not. Someone took a picture, and it blew up into something much bigger than what it needed to be or should have been. Nothing to be ashamed of."

Once it was onto the racing, Norris fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a Grand Prix winner. Unlike in Saturday's Sprint race which he didn't finish, the 24-year-old Brit and his McLaren team brought their best to Miami, ousting world champion Max Verstappen by capitalising on a safety car during the 30th lap.

Norris ended up more than seven seconds clear of the Red Bull driver, who'd won four of the five previous Grands Prix this season and had maintained his 100 per cent record of starting on pole. Verstappen gave a classy response after his rival's victory, saying: "Lando was flying... He definitely deserves it."

Bristol-born Norris gleefully thanked his mum Cisca and dad Adam after the race, dedicating the win to his grandma. He'll be hoping to repeat his heroics in a fortnight's time when Formula 1 return to Imola.
