Mini-Europe unveils new miniatures in honour of Belgian EU presidency

Several new miniature installations have been unveiled at the Mini-Europe amusement park in Brussels under the banner 'EU in ME'.

Belgium’s foreign minister Hadja Lahbib (MR), deputy head of the European Commission representation in Belgium, Tom De Smedt, and honorary president of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, were on site for the grand unveiling, which was done in honour of the Belgian presidency of the Council of the European Union.

“All the challenges we face today, be it the war in Ukraine, rising energy prices or climate change, can only be solved with solidarity among member states at the European level,” said Lahbib.

The new miniatures are part of the broader Spirit of Europe exhibition, whose aim is to highlight the necessity of the European Union in a playful way, while underlining the importance of the upcoming European elections.

There are 18 new miniatures in total, all produced at 1:25 scale. They symbolise important European events and policy objectives, including Pride, the Erasmus+ programme and the European Green Deal.

The scenes depicted touch on themes such as democracy, solidarity and the EU's values.

Lahbib and Van Rompuy, together with some young children, also planted a small tree near a new miniature depicting the European Common Agricultural Policy.
