Peter Wright leaves fans split as he changes legendary walk-on song for Premier League darts

Fans have been left debating the “worst walk on in the history of darts” after Peter Wright ’s bold move.

Snakebite was in action during the latest night of Premier League Darts in Liverpool. The 54-year-old struggled to find his rhythm as he slumped to a 6-3 defeat to Michael van Gerwen.

Speaking of rhythm, Wright unveiled a slight change to his pre-game routine ahead of taking on the Dutchman. His walk-on music has long been Pitbull track ‘Don’t Stop The Party’.

However, it was slightly different in Liverpool. The song was abruptly halted before being replaced by ‘Yellow Submarine’ by The Beatles - in an apparent nod to the band in their home city. He also sported a shirt with a number of submarines plastered all over it.

Wright’s decision was praised by some fans watching along. One said the new routine was “brilliant”, while another praised the change as “class”.

Not everyone was on board with the new song, however. A couple of fans claimed his new walk-out music was “tragic” and “awful”. Other supporters then claimed that Wright had “lost the plot” and it was the “worst walk on in the history of darts”.

Wright has previously explained how he chooses his walk-out music and claims that he takes the crowd’s reaction into consideration. Speaking back in 2020, he said: “I've had quite a few walk-on tunes.

“I choose a walk-on tune that actually means something to me or I think can get the crowd involved. I listen to the radio during the day when I practice.

“When any new songs come on I put myself in that position, imagining yourself standing and waiting to be called out. I actually imagine myself walking on to that tune and whether it will be good or not!"

Fans will now be keeping an eye out for what Wright’s next walk-on tune could be. The next Premier League evening takes place on Thursday May 2 in Aberdeen.

Wright will certainly be aiming for better luck regardless of his pre-match routine. He currently sits bottom of the table having claimed just four points from 13 nights so far. He has progressed past the first round only twice - in Nottingham and Belfast. With just three group stage nights remaining, the Scot’s hopes of reaching the playoffs appear over. Wright will take on Michael Smith in Aberdeen.

Youngster Luke Littler currently sits top of the table and holds a five-point advantage over World Darts Championship final foe Luke Humphries following his latest success in Liverpool.
