Two teenagers appear in court charged with murder of Croatian man in Clondalkin

Two teenagers appeared in court this morning charged with the murder of Josip Štrok, who died after an alleged assault earlier this month.

Anthony DeLappe, 18, and Connor Rafferty, 19, appeared before Judge Máire Conneely at Blanchardstown District Court today, Friday, 26 April.

Mr Rafferty of Castlegrange Close in Clondalkin was the first to appear. He wore a grey and black North Face tracksuit. Garda Patrick Fallon gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.

Mr DeLappe, of Melrose Avenue, wore a navy Nike tracksuit during his appearance.

Garda Barry O’Shea gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution. He said Mr DeLappe was arrested at 8.50pm on Thursday and charged by Sgt Walsh at 9.49pm.

Neither Mr DeLappe nor Mr Rafferty made a reply when they were charged or spoke during the appearance.

Both were also charged with assault causing harm to David Družinec - Mr. Štrok’s pal who was injured during the same incident.

Mr Štrok, 31, suffered head injuries after an incident at Grange View Way in Clondalkin on March 30.

On April 3, Mr Štrok, who was from Croatia, died of his injuries in Tallaght Hospital.

Mr Rafferty, who was represented by Luke Staines, said his client would apply for bail on the assault charge at his next court appearance.

Mr DeLappe, who was represented by Valerie Buckley, said her client would do the same.

Both men were remanded in custody and will appear before Cloverhill District Court on May 2.

The date of the murder charge was amended from March 30 to April 3 after a request by the Gardai.

Both men were granted legal aid.
