Bidders battle it out to pay knockdown price for gangster Christopher 'Git' Waldron's luxurious Dublin home

The luxurious home of gangland figure Christopher ‘Git’ Waldron has been sold for a knockdown price of €284,000 following a bidding war at an online auction.

Waldron, who has been a target of the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB), saw the property on Killala Road in Cabra, Dublin 7 being the focus of High Court action.

Last month, the CAB announced they had seized the property - which has a two-storey extension added to the back and side of the house and a granny flat at the rear of the property.

According to the CAB, an estimated €430,000 was spent on renovating the property which Waldron, who was an associate of Eamonn ‘the Don’ Dunne, purchased for an estimated €50,000 in 2013.

The property was described by Gibson Auctioneers as being “finished to a high standard internally.” Images from inside the three-bedroom property, which includes an attic conversion, show a stylish wooden floor in the sitting room with double doors opening to a large kitchen/dining area with a glass wall and double doors at the back while the bedrooms feature fitted wardrobes and the bathroom features luxurious tiles on the wall.

Within 40 minutes of the online auction going live at 12pm on Thursday, Gibson Auctioneers confirmed that the “reserve price was met and the property will be sold at the end of the auction at 1pm".

Two bidders pitted against each other during the online auction with the first bidder placing a bid of €275,000 - the reserve price. A second bidder then bid €276,000 with the first bidder coming back with a bid of €281,000.

The second bidder then made an offer of €282,000 with the first bidder placing an amount of €284,000, which was the highest bid before the auction closed.

The CAB provided evidence in the High Court that Waldron, who has more than 40 previous convictions, funded the purchase of assets including the Cabra house as well as seven designer watches worth €72,900 “through the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Cabra and Finglas areas of Dublin".

In their submissions to the High Court, CAB investigators also said: "Garda intelligence is that David Waldron and his brother Christoper Waldron took over a leading role in sourcing and supplying drugs in the Cabra area of Dublin after the murder of Eamon Dunne in April 2010."

One of Christopher Waldron’s associates was James ‘Whela’ Whelan who was shot dead in a feud in Finglas in April 2022.

Whelan’s murder is part of a feud involving members of the gang led by the Finglas criminal known as ‘Mr Flashy’.

Christopher’s brother David Waldron, a convicted drug dealer, saw his long-running legal battle with the CAB when earlier in April his assets worth €3.3 million - including a luxurious split level country mansion called Darview in Co Wexford - were declared the proceeds of crime in the High Court.
