Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's recent plans are major sign they're reconsidering cutting off the UK

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have given a clue that building their brand and relationships in the UK isn't permanently off the cards.

Meghan and Harry have expanded their communications team, including appointing an executive in the UK, hinting that they have future plans to keep a strong link there. The couple, who stepped back from the royal family in 2020, make rare visits to the UK and currently have a strained relationship with the royal family following controversial interviews and comments made in their Netflix series.

Charlie Gipson and Kyle Boulia have joined the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as communications executives, with Charlie based in the UK and taking on the role of Director of Communications, working as the main point of contact for UK press. Boulia is the new Deputy Press Secretary and Director of Communications for US media.

The new team members join the wider communications team, which includes Former Director of Global Communications, Miranda Barbot, who is now Vice-President of Programs and Media Operations. Ashley Hansen remains the overarching Head of Communications for the couple and their projects under their company, Archewell.

The potential link with the UK comes as the couple have confirmed new filming projects as part of their multi-million deal with Netflix. Harry is filming a documentary looking at the world of polo and providing a behind-the-scenes look at the sport, whereas Meghan has a new cookery and lifestyle show that will show the "joys of cooking and gardening, entertaining and friendship".

However, Meghan's project has already caused issues as it's said to have halted her podcast reprisal plans and pushed them back into 2025. Her return to podcasting was announced earlier this year as she said she would continue her "love of podcasting" and re-release her Archetypes podcast. However, the podcast plans are 'struggling to get off the starting blocks', according to a source.

A source revealed to the Daily Mail that the “smaller podcast company is struggling to get off the starting blocks". The company behind the podcast, Lemonada, is said to be concerned about "scheduling conflicts" between the launch of the podcast and Meghan’s new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.

Meghan's return to podcasting also included a reprisal of her podcast, Archetypes, which previously had over 10 million downloads and averaged almost a million listens per episode.

When Meghan announced her new deal earlier this year, she said: "Being able to support a female-founded company with a roster of thought-provoking and highly entertaining podcasts is a fantastic way to kick off 2024. Our plan to re-release Archetypes so that more people can now have access to it, as well as launching a dynamic new podcast, is well in the works."
