Dublin pub bans customers from wearing coats inside and people are fuming

A new pub in Dublin has come under fire for its entrance policy, which bans customers from wearing coats inside.

Dempsey's Bar in Balbriggan opened recently and has stirred up quite the conversation online after sharing a picture of a plaque detailing its door policy.

The sign, placed outside the pub, outlines several stipulations concerning age, dress code and conduct, Dublin Live reports.

It reads: "The management strictly reserve the right to refuse admission to the premises. Entrance policy: Strictly over 23's - Proof of age required

"A neat fashionable dress code is required. T-shirts, round-necks and trainers may only be allowed at the discretion of the staff/management. No hoodies, baseball hats, beanies or coats to be worn upon entry.

"No collections or ticket selling etc.

"Patrons are advised that the entire premises is CCTV covered, and such footage may be used in evidence where an incident has occurred or requested by the Garda.

"Admission and service may be refused where a member of staff forms the opinion that a person/persons either in attendance or wishing to attend the premises have consumed an excessive amount of alcohol, are inebriated, cross-faded, abusive and/or have been aggressive to a members of staff or patrons alike."

After the sign was shared on Facebook, dozens of people took to the comments to share their opinions. Some were outraged at the 'no coats' rule, with one person writing: "So you can't wear a coat going into a pub. Do they realise this is Ireland, ffs."

A second person chimed in with: "Lol. So, no coats but doesn't mention Track Suits, lol. And what do you wear in winter or at Christmas. Lol, no coats."

A third person added their two cents, saying: "It's not the 90s anymore. No trainers or T-shirts? They may as well have put over 50's on the sign."

Someone else asked: "No coats? So, is it only opening on the two days of summer that we get each year?"

However, others defended the pub's decision, with one person saying: "Go out in Dublin and you see the same everywhere. Will be nice to have a reason to doll up going out, there’s nothing wrong with neat dress being essential. You can go to any pub in the town in trackies/jerseys etc. There’s loads of times going out as it’s only this pub or that pub I’d go ah I don’t need to change sure no one will be dressed up anyway."

Another person said: "Everyone should be embracing and supporting a new business in our town not slating and criticising every bit of it before it even opens!"
